The Utah Goldback series is the first voluntary local currency crafted from 24 karat gold. The Utah Legal Tender Act of 2011 allowed for the currency to be created for circulation within the state which would not be subject to inflation like federally issued banknotes. Alternate currency only in the state of Utah by certain businesses. The notes are created from Aurum, which is a thin layer of gold between two layers of protective polyester. The Utah Goldback is minted in five denominations, the smallest represented by this 1 Goldback Aurum Foil Note containing 1/1000 Troy oz. of .999 fine gold.
Gorgeous Selectively Colorized Imagery
The female personification of Prudence is depicted on the obverse, wearing a traditional Native American style dress to represent the Ute, Paiute, Navajo, Iroquois and Goshute tribes that originally inhabited the region in and around modern-day Utah. Prudence is derived from Prudentia, the Roman goddess of wisdom, insight and knowledge. Inscriptions include "ONE UTAH GOLDBACK," "VOLUNTARY LOCAL CURRENCY" and "1/1000 TROY OUNCE 24K GOLD."
As a result of the note's unique production technique, the reverse features a lightly frosted mirror image of the obverse design.
