Why order this West Point Mint Hoard 2016-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle 30th Anniversary?

Proof Silver Eagles debuted in 1986 along with their bullion counterparts. Both series have proven extremely popular with collectors since then. This coin, which was part of the West Point Mint Hoard, comes from the 30th-anniversary issue, which exists due to the U.S Mint selling excess 2016 Proof Silver Eagles to a buyer in a closed bid sale. Something that almost never happens as the Mint usually melts down excess products. It bears the "W" mint mark of the West Point Mint. It was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.

Featuring the Historic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman

Adolph Weinman created the design that features on the obverse. Known as Walking Liberty, it appeared on half dollars from 1916-1947. Liberty steps confidently toward the left side of this face. She is draped in the American flag and wears a Phrygian cap, which identifies her as a freed slave. She carries laurel and oak branches in her left arm. The branches represent civilian and military honors, respectively. Liberty extends her right hand forward above the morning sun. Obverse inscriptions include her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2016."

On the reverse is an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States that was designed by John Mercanti, American engraver and sculptor who had famously held the title as the former 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver. An eagle guards a union shield under a triangular arrangement of thirteen stars. The stars symbolize the original states. The bird holds a ribbon that bears the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. In its talons are arrows, symbols of America's willingness to defend her values, and an olive branch, which indicates a preference for peace. Rim inscriptions note the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, "ONE DOLLAR."

Flawless PF70 UC with Mercanti Signed Label

John Mercanti hand-signed the label on which this coin's grading information is provided. That information includes Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC's) highest grade, Proof 70, and Ultra Cameo certification. The Proof 70 grade is reserved exclusively for coins that appear perfect under 5x magnification, while Ultra Cameo indicates that a coin exhibits particularly sharp contrasts between heavily frosted devices and deeply mirrored fields on both faces.
