The U.S. Mint has issued the American Silver Eagle since 1986. In spring 2020, when the coronavirus emergency quickly spread across the world, the demand for precious metals products increased. In an effort to safely maintain production of the Silver Eagle, the Mint temporarily utilized its Philadelphia branch to supplement the supply, striking a total of 240,000 coins from April 8-20. This 2020-(P) Silver Eagle stuck from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver is one of those specially minted coins. As a bullion coin without a Mint mark, the coin is identified as a product of the Philadelphia Mint upon its certification label only.

Gorgeous American Silver Eagle Design

The obverse is adorned with a rendition of Lady Liberty borrowed from the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by Adolph A. Weinman. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2020" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."

The reverse design by John Mercanti features a heraldic eagle surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
