Silver Daler of NEW DALE™

100 Years After the Defeat of the Tyrant

"So snow comes after fire and even dragons have their ending!" This large coin, struck in 1 troy ounce of .999 pure silver, was minted 100 years after Bard the Bowman killed the tyrant Smaug. Bard was accorded a 1/4 share of Smaug's hoard in silver, so it is fitting that the centennial Daler for the Death of Smaug be made from from silver recovered from the hoard. The coin shows a masterfully engraved scene with the archer and the dragon above a burning building. On the reverse is The Lonely Mountain and the town of New Dale that Bard helped to establish. The engraver spent an incredible 340 hours creating the intricate images. The text is inscribed in Tengwar.

This Silver Daler of NEW DALE™ from the world of J. R. R. Tolkien is struck from solid .999 silver, measures 4 cm in diameter, and weighs about 31.3 grams, or 1 troy ounce. Coin artwork by Greg Franck-Weiby.

Coins are struck one at a time in the USA using antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. A colorful description is included with history, translations, and facts about the coins.
