Random Date Why order the MS69 1 oz Silver $1 American Eagle?
The American Silver Eagle Series has enamored collectors young and old since it began in 1986. The collection has established itself as the world's most popular bullion coin, with demand leading to mintages in the tens of millions in recent years. Collectors buying has led to the US Mint's decision to strike the bullion series at multiple facilities in recent years. This has given collectors the chance to enjoy some variety in a series that has had relatively little. This coin was struck in Philadelphia on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.
Featuring the Historic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
The Silver Eagle brings together a living numismatic legend and a legend from America's numismatic past. The obverse features thee work of a past legend, Adolph Weinman, whose Walking Liberty design returned for the series after first appearing on the half dollar from 1916-1947. Liberty, draped in the American flag and wearing a Phrygian cap on her head, strides confidently to the left side of the coin. In her left hand are traditional symbols of civilian honors, laurel branches, and military ones, oak branches. She extends her right hand in front of her with her palm open above the rising sun, as though she is presenting the holder with the new day. Obverse inscriptions include the figure's name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "Random."
John Mercanti, who served as the US Mint's Chief Engraver, designed the reverse, modeling it off of the Great Seal of the United States. At the center is a union shield, which an eagle guards. The bird holds a ribbon in its beak and arrows and an olive branch in its claws. On the ribbon is the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). The arrows serve as reminders of America's willingness to defend her values, while the olive branch tells all that the nation would prefer peace. Above the eagle are thirteen stars, one for each of the original states. This design is encircled by three rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
