In 2007, the Perth Mint brought one of Australia's most famous and beloved creatures, the koala, to collectors for the first time. Since then, the Silver Koala series has become an annual favorite of countless collectors. Issued in a variety of sizes and types, the series features one-year only designs that keep collectors returning to it ever year. This 2019 edition was struck in high relief from 1 oz of .9999 fine silver and is part of a mintage of 10,000 pieces.

Exquisite Koala Design by Ing Ing Jong

On the obverse is Australia's head of state Queen Elizabeth II as portrayed by Jody Clark. The monarch faces right with her shoulders open to the holder. On her head is her Royal Diamond Diadem. She also wears earrings and a necklace. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," is among three inscriptions on the rim frame. The others read, "AUSTRALIA" and "1 DOLLAR."

The reverse was designed by Ing Ing Jong. It features a koala sitting on a branch of a eucalyptus tree. The angle of the head, which is turned, offers the holder an excellent look at the creature's face. A rim frame encircling the image offers two sets of inscriptions, "AUSTRALIAN KOALA" and "2019 1 OZ 9999 FINE SILVER."

The experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this coin is flawless as seen under 5x magnification by awarding it their highest grade, Proof 70. They also noted that it was submitted within 30 days of its initial release from the mint by certifying it First Releases. This information comes provided on a label that bears a picture of a koala.
