Why purchase this 15 g Gold 2020 ¥200 China Panda?
Since 1982, the Gold Panda Series has been bringing China's national symbol to the world. Each year - save one - in the series has brought a new design, and the 2020 edition is no different. These designs run the gamut from the fascinating to the adorable. In addition to featuring awe inspiring designs, the series also offers the novelty of being the only gold bullion coin issued in metric units instead of imperial ones, a distinction that it has had since 2016. This coin was struck from 15 g of .999 fine gold at the China Mint and remains in GEM Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The 15 g size is a successor to the half ounce coin. This size has a mintage of 600,000 pieces.
Endearing Baby Panda Design by Song Lina
The Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests returns yet again to the obverse of the Gold Panda. The structure is a typical example of traditional Chinese architecture. It stands on an elevated platform in Beijing's Temple of Heaven. Three concentric tiers lead up to a single apex. Encircling the building is a rim frame on which there are two inscriptions. One is the name of the issuing country, "People's Republic of China," which is inscribed in Chinese characters. The other is the date, "2020."
Northern China native Song Lina, who has been studying pandas for years, designed the reverse. A baby panda stretches upward for more bamboo leaves as it enjoys eating what it already has. The seated animal faces to the holder. The coin's face value is inscribed to the panda's left, while its weight and purity, "15 G AU .999," are inscribed on the rim above its head.
