Why purchase this 2020 £10 Great Britain 1/10 oz Gold Britannia?
The Gold Britannia debuted in 1987, the year after the Gold Eagle was first issued. The coin is among the most popular gold pieces in Europe. It celebrates the iconic personification of the issuing country, who has been around for thousands of years. This Gold Britannia was struck from 1/10 oz of .9999 fine gold at the British Royal Mint. It will arrive in GEM Brilliant Uncirculated condition, just as it was when it left the Mint.
Featuring Philip Nathan's Famous Britannia Design
A right-side portrait of reigning British monarch Queen Elizabeth II dominates the obverse. Designed by Jody Clark, the image shows her wearing her Royal Diamond Diadem, the crown that she traditionally wears to the State Opening of Parliament. The image is encircled by two inscriptions, her name and abbreviated Latin title, "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D" (Elizabeth II by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith), and the coin's face value, "10 POUNDS."
The reverse features a Britannia design by Philip Nathan. Britannia has featured on the island's coins for millennia. She stands on on the waters as the wind blows her long hair and garment. She has a military helmet on her head. In her right hand, she holds her trident, a symbol of her power. With her left hand she balances a shield that bears the Union Jack. Rim inscriptions offer the name of the figure, "BRITANNIA," the coin's date, "2020," and its weight and purity, "1/10 OZ 999.9 FINE GOLD."
