Beginning in 1878, these beautiful coins were produced each year until 1904, when production ceased. However, due to a legislative mandate in 1921, these coins made a brief reappearance before the Mint began producing the Peace Dollar design.
George T. Morgan, the visionary designer of the Morgan Silver Dollar, was determined to create a truly inspirational coin. He extensively studied the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and used an American model from Philadelphia, Anna Willess Williams, as his inspiration for the obverse of the coin. Struck from a 90% silver composition, the Morgan Silver Dollar boasts a captivating profile of Lady Liberty facing left, with the word “LIBERTY” in the headband. The reverse of the coin features the iconic American Bald Eagle with wings outstretched, clutching a branch and several arrows in its talons and surrounded by a small wreath.
These stunning coins contain a full three-quarters of an ounce of pure silver, making them a valuable and attractive addition to any collection. So, make sure to add the Morgan to your collection today!
