Breathtaking Silver Eagle Designs

Obverse: Lady Liberty is portrayed strolling towards the rising sun on the obverse, while draped in an American flag and carrying an enormous bouquet of oak and laurel branches. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2021." This stunning personification of Liberty is borrowed from the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by acclaimed early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. The Walking Liberty image has graced the obverse of the Silver Eagle since its 1986 introduction. For the first time ever in the production of the Silver Eagle series, the Type-2 style credits the artist with the initials "AW" in monogram format.

Type-1 Reverse (1986 until mid-2021): A heraldic eagle is centered on the reverse beneath thirteen stars, with an olive branch and bundle of arrow in its grip. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The patriotic image is an example of the work of prolific sculptor John Mercanti, the currently retired 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. Type-2 Reverse (introduced 2021): An exquisitely detailed eagle is illustrated on the reverse, grasping a single branch of oak, as it lifts its wings to slow its flight for landing. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR." The Eagle Landing image was created by U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Emily Damstra. The design was transformed into a three-dimensional reality by Michael Gaudioso, a U.S. Mint sculptor/engraver since 2009.
