Why buy this 2019 Germania Mint 1 oz Silver Oak Leaf Medal?

Many ancient German peoples worshiped the oak prior to the rise of Christianity. It was considered the home of ghosts and gods, while its fruit, acorns, were believed to be responsible for fertility. Now, Germania Mint pays tribute to the plant and its importance to early German peoples. This medal was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .9999 fine silver. Part of a mintage of 50,000 pieces, it will arrive in GEM Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

Striking Oak Leaf Design

The medal's obverse features a stunning design that consists of an oak leaf and an acorn. The oak leaf is finely detailed. Along the rim frame are a pair of inscriptions. One offers the name of the medal, "OAK LEAF," while the other notes this piece's weight and purity, "1 OZ 999.9 FINE SILVER."

On the reverse is a two-headed eagle. It is a traditional symbol of empire that remains on the coats of arms of many cities in Germany. The heads face in opposite directions, which represent the past and the present. The bird also holds lightning bolts, which represent the powers of creation and destruction, in its talons. Inscriptions along the rim read, "GERMANIA," "2019," and "5 MARK." The final inscription pays tribute to the country's former currency, but this piece is not legal tender.
