In Chinese mythology, the Vermilion Bird guards the southern direction, the summer season and the element of fire, and is the symbol for the color red due to its fiery plumage.

Obverse: On the obverse, an exquisite rendition of the Great Wall of China illustrates the landmark cutting through China's mountainous terrain, while framing the medal's square hole. Inscribed "1 OZ AG .999" and "2021."

Reverse: The reverse features a high relief interpretation of the Vermilion Bird preparing to strike, with its long, curling tail feathers elegantly wrapping around the square hole. A compass rose surrounded by auspicious clouds, and the inscription "VERMILION BIRD OF THE SOUTH - SUMMER" are located below.
