Historic 1626 Map Design
The coin's obverse bears Ian Rank-Broadley's right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Rank-Broadley shows the monarch wearing earrings and a tiara. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," joins the coin's country, "AUSTRALIA," date, "2019," and face value, "5 DOLLARS," on the rim.
On the reverse is a map of the New World. It notes the various regions, as well as broadly defined zones. In inset section bears inscriptions noting Columbus's discovery of the Americas, as well as the dates of the circumnavigations of two English explorers. Rim inscriptions read, "1626 A NEW AND ACCVRATE MAP OF THE WORLD" and "COLUMBUS - DRAKE - CAVENDISH - MAGELLAN."
