An exquisite replication of the Aztec Sun Stone is centered on the obverse. The focal point of the complex design symbolizes the sun, personified as the solar deity Tonatiuh. The deity is surrounded by concentric rings adorned with emblems signifying the days, months and specific periods of time on the Aztec calendar.
The reverse features a left facing representation of Cuauhtemoc wearing a stylized ceremonial headdress. Cuauhtemoc, whose name means "descending eagle," was the final emperor of the Aztec Empire. The portrait is accompanied by the inscriptions "TWO TROY OUNCES," "CUAUHTEMOC" and ".999 FINE SILVER." The image is framed by a crenelated border.
